Every Jinx build guide looks identical for about six weeks and then stops being true, because the items get renamed, reworked or removed. What does not change is the shape of the build — Jinx has specific problems, and each slot in her inventory exists to solve one of them.
Short answer
Attack speed first, then crit, then armour penetration, with lifesteal somewhere in the middle. Boots early. Jinx converts attack speed into range and movement speed better than any other marksman, which is why the first item decides how the whole game feels.
What Jinx actually needs from items
Her kit answers this for you. The minigun stacks attack speed as it fires, the rockets trade attack speed for range and splash, and her passive turns takedowns into a burst of movement speed. So attack speed is not just damage for her — it is uptime on the minigun ramp and faster access to the range advantage.
Against that, she is the most immobile marksman in the game. No dash, no blink, nothing but a slow trap and her own positioning. Every item decision is a negotiation between those two facts.
| Slot | What it is for |
|---|---|
| First item | Attack speed and damage together — the ramp that makes the minigun work |
| Boots | Attack speed boots in most games; magic or armour resistance boots when the enemy burst is the reason you keep dying |
| Second item | Crit, to turn that attack speed into real damage per hit |
| Third item | Multi-target attacks — the item that makes rockets hit the whole team instead of one target |
| Fourth item | Armour penetration, once the enemy frontline has actually built armour |
| Fifth item | Lifesteal or a defensive option, depending on whether you are dying to damage or to dives |

The first item decides your game
An attack-speed-forward first item gets the minigun ramping in every skirmish and makes early objective fights survivable. A crit-forward first item hits harder per shot but leaves you slower to come online, which is dangerous on a champion who cannot escape a bad trade.
The practical rule: if the enemy team has dive threats and you expect short, chaotic fights, take the attack speed. If the game is going long and your team can protect you, crit rewards the patience.

Rockets versus minigun
This is the mechanical skill that matters far more than the build. Minigun for single targets and for ramping attack speed; rockets for range, for waves, and for anything grouped. Two habits separate good Jinx players from the rest:
- Switch before the fight, not during it. The swap has a cost, and doing it mid-trade is how you lose damage windows.
- Use rockets to farm from a distance when the lane is dangerous. Their range is why Jinx can sometimes farm from a position where the enemy support cannot reach her at all.

Positioning is the build
Jinx wins fights she does not enter. Her damage arrives from the back of her own team, through her rockets, at a range that most engage tools cannot cross in one go. Her traps are for the ground between you and whoever is coming, not for the enemy you are shooting at.
Her ultimate rewards the same discipline — it travels the length of the map and gets stronger the further it goes, so firing it across a fight you are not in is often worth more than firing it at the person in front of you.
Runes, in principle
Keystone choices rotate constantly, so pick by function rather than by name. You want either an attack-speed ramp for extended fights, or a sustain keystone if the lane matchup is beating you up. Secondary runes should cover the thing your build cannot: movement in the mid-game, or health to survive the one-shot that keeps happening.
Common mistakes
- Buying armour penetration before the enemy has armour. It does almost nothing in the first twenty minutes.
- Skipping boots for too long. Jinx with no movement speed is a target dummy with good range.
- Sitting in minigun form during teamfights because it feels stronger. It is stronger, at a range you cannot safely stand at.
- Chasing her passive. The movement speed after a takedown is for repositioning or escaping, not for running further into the fight.
League of Legends FAQ
Is Jinx good for beginners?
Reasonably. Her kit is readable and her damage is high, but her complete lack of mobility punishes bad positioning harder than most marksmen.
Should I build attack speed or crit first?
Attack speed into dive-heavy teams and chaotic games; crit when the game is going long and you have a protective team.
When should I use rockets?
Any time more than one target is in range, and any time the minigun's range would put you somewhere you should not stand.
Does the build change by patch?
The item names do, constantly. The order of what each slot is for barely moves, which is why it is worth learning the shape rather than memorising a list.
Buy for the job each slot does, watch what the enemy frontline builds, and the specific items sort themselves out no matter what the patch notes did this month.
